Forget the comparisons between Jake Shimabukuro and Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. True, this 30-year-old Hawaiian virtuoso with the boyish looks and monster instrumental chops is easily the greatest ukulele player some people have ever heard. But it's more accurate to say he's the greatest ukulele player most people have never heard. JAKE SHIMABUKURO - Never heard of Jake Shimabukoru? Too bad, because with ukulele in hand, he rocks. Four years ago, Mouses Keshishyan sent dozens of unsolicited e-mails to America Online members telling them to verify their credit-card information on fake AOL Web sites he set up. Then he had the information sent to his own e-mail box. COMPUTER THIEVERY - 'Phishing,' where identity thieves fish for personal information by sending e-mail and creating bogus Web sites, has progressed to a multibillion-dollar problem for banks, online retailers and other companies. Game: "Elebits" Publisher: Konami System: Nintendo Wii Cost: $50 ESRB rating: E Review rating: 3 stars Combining hide-and-seek game play with laser-gun controls, Konami's new Wii title, "Elebits," captivates gamers with an addictive adventure that's as adorable as it is innovative. Too bad the graphics are so mediocre. In an alternate world, small, cuddly, creatures known as Elebits provide all the energy needed to run everything, so natural gas, coal and nuclear energy aren't needed. ... [full story]

Not to disparage the five foreign-language films nominated for Oscars, but Academy members, what were you thinking? How did you exclude Pedro Aldomovar's "Volver"? More curious still, how did you nominate Penelope Cruz for best actress for her dominant role in the film, then neglect to nominate the film? By some perverted logic, did voters decide that the dozens of awards and nominations received by the film around the world were plenty? You know, share ... [full story]

If you are bewildered by the number of mutual funds on the shelves, selecting a financial adviser has got to be an even more excruciating process. The nation's inventory of mutual funds exceeds 8,100, and if you multiply that number a few times, you'll get some idea of the staggering number of people trying to make a living in the advice business. Unfortunately, too many people who portray themselves as financial experts aren't. The threshold ... [full story]

I like football. There’s grunting and shouting, and more important, a man has to be dragged to the ground before a play can end. It preserves the holiness of Sunday. The more I watch, however, the harder it is to overlook an unforgivable flaw in the game: the field goal.  Consider this. A football team grunts and shouts its way 60 yards upfield until it faces fourth down. Then, at the moment of truth when dreams are ... [full story]

Q: I have serious fraud complaint against a real estate agent who represented me as a buyer. I cannot afford the $10,000 initial fee to sue her and the local Board of Realtor's Ethics Committee is beyond useless, saying this is a two-year process and I should contact an attorney.I'd like to know if there have been other complaints to establish a pattern that would add weight to my case. The Board of Realtor's Ethics' ... [full story]
