The High Desert Men’s Summit 2007 coming to the Deschutes County Expo Center March 16-17, announces contemporary Christian rock band Third Day will headline the HDMS evening concert (open to the entire family) on Saturday night, March 17, in the Hooker Creek Arena. A 41-year old Washington County, Oregon woman was arrested Thursday morning for suspected animal abuse and assaulting an officer when authorities seized 15 animals from a semi-truck trailer where the suspect was living -- including one dog whose muzzle she had tied shut, sheriff’s deputies reported.

The 6th annual Shop with a Cop program, sponsored by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, was bigger and better than ever. This year, 110 children -- from kindergarten through 12th grade -- went shopping, purchasing gifts for 518 family members. Including the students getting something for themselves, 628 people had a little brighter Christmas this year. This was an increase from 2005, when 94 students went shopping and 576 family members were positively impacted.

Oregon public health officials investigated a record 119 norovirus outbreaks in 2006, and already this year 13 potential new outbreaks have been reported to the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Public Health Division.
Investigations into 87 of the outbreaks have been completed; they occurred in 18 counties and affected more than 3,000 people, according to Mel Kohn, M.D., state epidemiologist in ODHS.
