Police officers recently raised $44,161 in tips at Red Robin restaurants statewide to benefit Special Olympics Oregon. For the second time in ten days, the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) Team seized a substantial amount of methamphetamine that was hidden in a secret compartment of a suspected smuggler’s vehicle, authorities said.  The driver of the vehicle was arrested for allegedly attempting to bring in ½ pound of meth from Salem to Bend. A La Pine man was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash 15 miles south of Bend on Highway 97 when his pickup veered across the highway, went down a 20-foot embankment and struck a tree head-on, said authorities. Two Bend men were arrested Thursday afternoon for suspected sales of cocaine and methadone, a prescription drug, according to a news release by the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE) Team. Fire officials credited quick-acting gas station attendants with preventing a potentially disastrous situation from becoming even worse Thursday when they used an emergency gas shut off and attempted to douse the flames of a burning motorhome with fire extinguishers.
