I think the Steve Carell sequel "Evan Almighty" (Universal, 2 stars) has exhausted the commercial and creative spin-off possibilities of the modestly ambitious Jim Carrey comedy "Bruce Almighty." So, if there is a God - and I'm pretty sure there is - there will not be a sequel starring Wanda Sykes (who plays Congressional office manager Rita Daniels) called "Rita Almighty."   'EVAN ALMIGHTY' - Steve Carell portrays a newly elected lawmaker who gets a message ... With no sense of irony, Amy Finley said her life has changed somewhat in recent weeks, but not that much, really. The 33-year-old mom and freelance writer from La Mesa, Calif., just won her own six-episode show on The Food Network, beating out 11 other contestants for the title of The Next Food Network Star.   TASTE OF FAME - Amy Finley buys ingredients at Whole Foods in San Diego for meals for a client of ... Q: As a blessed, widowed, healthy lady you would think I could look forward to each day. However, now at 76, my negative thoughts depress everybody, even me! How can I keep my spirits up? A: One inspirational approach is keeping a daily journal. It will help remind you of wonderful times and direct your energy toward each new day. Q: I am a new bride, an immigrant who cannot take employment until I get my green card. I wish to spend time making our apartment nice. In my country, I learned to sew and make some handcrafts, but I need some ideas. Your newspaper stories often tell how to do pretty things. Perhaps you have ideas for me? A: Many, many ideas from many sources. One of my latest favorites is a new book ... [full story]

It's hard to imagine a world not colored by crayons - and Crayola crayons at that. What would we put on our fridge doors if not our preschoolers' crayon scribbles? Pencil or pen just wouldn't do it. And coloring books, where we learned to stay within the lines - would they even exist? And what would restaurants offer kids to keep them occupied while waiting for their food? Yet before 1903 that's how the world ... [full story]

It seemed like only moments after a Madison Square Garden got slapped by a New York jury with an $11.6 million penalty for sexual harassment that two more women decided to sue the company. Ah, obviously gold diggers. They sense the easy prey and are swooping down. Not so fast. If you know anything about sexual harassment complaints in the workplace, you know that things often are pretty out of control before they are filed. ... [full story]

Richard Franz's mother is in a nursing home and longs for more companionship, but he has a job that involves travel. Enter Shirley, a Right at Home caregiver. "Having Shirley gives me a peace of mind," says Franz. "A nursing home wasn't enough. My mother needs nurturing and the personal touch." People who are part of the "sandwich generation" face the difficulty of juggling a career, raising a family and providing care for their elderly ... [full story]

If Madison Avenue ever opens a Catchy Name Hall of Fame, Embassy Suites has my vote. Each word conjures up visions of power, elegance, a private sanctuary for the well-heeled and well-connected. A place where diplomats hold back-channel conversations in total secrecy to free a political hostage or shore up a sagging currency. Maybe that's why I tend to think - and often book - Embassy Suites when I need a refuge on the road. ... [full story]
