The City of Bend has approved a night work permit to allow work on Mount Washington Drive immediately west of Third Street (State Highway 20).The night work will occur beginning Thursday, November 2nd, 2006, 8:00 p.m. through Friday, November 3rd, 2006, 7:00 a.m.Traffic will be maintained through the work zone, but lane assignments willbe different. Deschutes County’s vegetation program is one of 20 recipients of matching grants to fund programs designed to fight the spread of noxious weeds. The grants, totaling about $200,000, were awarded by BASF Professional Vegetation Management.
The County’s vegetation manager, Dan Sherwin, applied for approximately $21,000 representing the Central Oregon Weed Management Area group to better combat Yellow Flag Iris. It NEVER fails….as winter arrives in Central Oregon, a higher-than-average number of motor vehicle accidents occur on our highways for a two or three week period. Daylight hours decrease, temperatures cool, frost appears and snow or freezing rain may start to fall.

Thousands of Oregonians who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or have a speech impairment are about to have an easier time communicating with the Oregon Department of Human Services Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Services thanks to a new software system the agency is installing.
The software replaces the traditional teletypewriter (TTY) with a network telephony service that combines telephone technology with the Internet and gives users the feeling of a more natural conversation.

Governor Ted Kulongoski has appointed Henry Sayre of Bend to the Oregon Arts Commission.
Sayre has been a Distinguished Professor of Art History at Oregon State University-Cascades Campus since 2001, and from 1983 through 2001, he taught art history at Oregon State University in Corvallis.
