BRUSSELS -- The borderless zone of the European Union expanded to include nine European countries Friday in the largest expansion of the international consortium.Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are part of the enlargement area known as the Schengen area. DENVER -- A 60-year-old Colorado man is suing an 8-year-old boy and his father for a skiing collision that caused tendon damage to the man's shoulder.David Pfahler says the 8-year-old's careless skiing caused the collision that tore a tendon in Pfahler's shoulder, KUSA-TV in Denver reported Friday.The boy's father told the television station his son didn't violently collide with Pfahler and was only trying to pass by the man on the slopes.Pfahler sued for $75,000 ... NEWARK, N.J. -- A former New Jersey police officer was sentenced to almost three years in federal prison Thursday for his part in an oxycodone-peddling scheme.Ronald Pomponio of Bricktown, who was a police officer in Newark, got a reduced sentence for cooperating with federal investigators, including testifying against a doctor involved in the scheme.
