Heading south from the quirks of "Twin Falls Idaho," the Polish brothers (Mark, Michael) have gone to New Mexico, which subs for Texas, and made a sweet, congenial comedy of dreams. "The Astronaut Farmer" contains no murderously jealous astronauts. Billy Bob Thornton, looking more than ever like a Dust Bowl version of Humphrey Bogart, is the dreamer named Farmer who wants to be an astronaut. Heather Graham was a fixture on magazine covers a couple of years ago, when show business insiders were proclaiming her to be Hollywood's newest "It Girl." In 1999, the nation's theater owners named Graham their "Female Star of Tomorrow", in light of her featured roles that year in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" and "Bowfinger." Even in the midst of the hoopla, Graham was aware that the Hollywood spotlight can burn out fast.   HEATHER GRAHAM ... [full story]

It's supposed to get downright spooky after a while. Except it doesn't. 'THE NUMBER 23' - Virginia Madsen and Danny Huston are featured in the drama 'The Number 23.' CNS Photo courtesy of Christine Loss. Eerily, the plot of the book ... [full story]

Producer Lindsay Doran is searching for the right words to describe the work of screenwriter Zach Helm, in particular his curious, quirky and enormously entertaining romantic-comedy "Stranger Than Fiction" (Sony, 3 1/2 stars). Doreen stumbles mentally, then blurts, "He fires on all syllables." Syllables. I think she's got something there. Helm fires on every page in his immensely clever script. And with enormous good fortune, he lands Marc Forster ("Monster's Ball," "Finding Neverland" and soon-to-be ... [full story]

In so many ways, the Individual Retirement Account is exquisitely simple. If you can recite your ABC's without hesitating, or even if you can unfold a napkin, you have enough intellectual firepower to open an IRA. Despite their simplicity, however, IRAs intimidate many Americans. And that's one reason why IRA opportunities have been passed by more times than a dirty truck stop. To be sure, there is $3.7 trillion sitting in IRA accounts today, but ... [full story]

Being a parent means having to make tough decisions. Determining when your child is big enough to move out of a car seat. Figuring out if or when your child should cross the street alone. And, on a more regular basis, deciding when your child is too ill to go to school. Lori Price, an Encinitas, Calif., mother of two, had to make that decision on a recent Monday morning. Her 5-year-old son Nate had ... [full story]
