As forecast last week, fuel prices in the western states have joined the upward movement. In the past week the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose by three and a half cents to $2.26. The Oregon average went up by slightly more than four cents to $2.46.

Hutchison aims to reduce environmental and health concerns
The safest possible future for advancing nanotechnology in a sustainable world can be reached by using green chemistry, says James E. Hutchison, a professor of chemistry at the University of Oregon.

More than 5,000 victims from 41 countries lost over $4 million
A federal jury in Eugene convicted Richard J. Dompier, 48, of North Carolina and formerly of Roseburg, Oregon, for his role in spearheading a pyramid scheme, which he promoted in 41 countries, causing more than 5,000 victims to lose a total of $4 million.
