Q: Our veterinarian recently told us about a little boy who lost his sight in one eye because of a roundworm infection, which he might have gotten from his puppy. We were thankful that our veterinarian told us about this and that she recommended periodic stool sample checks to be sure that our dog does not have internal parasites. Are roundworms commonly diagnosed in puppies? A: Unfortunately, finding roundworms in puppies is fairly common. It ... [full story]

Sales of condominiums and townhomes are picking up. These units are just too popular with a large segment of buyers to be held down long by a general sales slump. When I first started writing this real estate column in 1971, I had to explain what this new type of housing with the strange name of "condominium" was all about. Since then, it has become the preferred housing concept for an increasingly large number of ... [full story]

Recently, a friend came to me for advice on how to tell her 25-year-old daughter about the importance of saving money. The daughter had just gotten her first career-focused job, but felt she wasn't making enough money to save, especially for retirement. My friend knows how important saving is - and saves as much as she can herself - however, she didn't have enough information to have a substantive discussion with her daughter. This made ... Along comes more evidence that suggests you will live longer and more productively if you get up off your sofa and exercise moderately. A large study, presented Feb. 20 at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke Conference 2008 in New Orleans, followed 60,000 men and women for an average of 18 years. It found a significant connection between a moderate level of cardiorespiratory fitness and a reduction of the risk of stroke, the No. 3 ... [full story]

Some items never seem to go out of style - fashion that goes on safari is updated for the urban jungle. This year the "Out of Africa" look is still roaring with ethnic designs and a neutral color palette that still stalks the fashion runways. Indiana Jones himself would approve.   SAFARI STYLE - Anne Klein updates the safari trend at Macy's with the belted shirtdress, a classic style that transcends the seasons in neutral khaki. ...
