I’m a morning person: that’s when I get my best sleep in. I believe that most evils can be cured by 10 hours’ sleep and that alarm clocks should exist only as supplemental punishment for prisoners. You can imagine, then, how warm and fuzzy I felt when the phone began rrrrrringing at 6 a.m. Some fool was alarming me from a remote location. It happened twice, thrice, frice! I staggered to the phone with dreams in my ... [full story]

Q: This is a comment about your article last Sunday about "buyer's agents." This area is one of my pet peeves as an attorney. As a matter of law, unless the buyer is paying the "agent" from the buyer's own pre-sale funds and the "agent" expects to be paid from the proceeds of the sale, then the "agent" is by definition an agent of the seller only.No one ever tells the buyer this until it is ... Last week, there were two stories about carnage - the tragedy at Virginia Tech and the Supreme Court's decision on partial-birth abortion. At Virginia Tech, 32 people were killed. The worst of the pictures were kept from us, but we saw enough, as bleeding students and faculty members were carried out of the buildings. There were no pictures released of what some witnesses described as blood and gore on the floors and walls of the classrooms ... [full story]

Liberals want to resurrect the Federal Communications Commission’s Fairness Doctrine, a tenet created to ensure fair and balanced coverage of controversial issues, so that they can regulate talk radio and require “equal time” be given to opposing political views. Liberals don’t like talk radio’s mostly conservative content. Some conservatives, aided by the FCC, want to regulate violence on broadcast television and, for the first time, cable television and the FCC will soon recommend that Congress ... [full story]

Are conservative Christian evangelicals gearing up to join the attack-Iran brigade? As the launching of the Iraq War marked its fourth anniversary on March 19, it is worth remembering that during the lead up to the invasion a number of conservative evangelicals voiced their support for the war: Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention, the nation's largest Protestant denomination, maintained that Bush's action met criteria for ... Back in 2001, when Bryant Gumbel hosted CBS’s The Early Show, he polled his on-air colleagues. “At the risk of starting an argument, are you a believer in global warming?” The responses were unanimous: “Absolutely.” “Of course.” “Yeah.” “So am I,” affirmed Gumbel, who rued the public’s lack of enthusiasm: “I mean, does an iceberg have to come floating down the Hudson before somebody stands up and goes, ‘Oh, yeah’?” Six years later, CBS and ...
