ATLANTA - Grand jurors have indicted three Atlanta police officers who took part in a bungled drug raid that killed an elderly woman in her home.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday that Jason Smith was named in 13 felony counts, including murder; Greg Junnier was changed for three counts of felony murder; and Arthur Tesler was named in two felony counts involving false statements and false imprisonment.

KINGSTON, N.Y. - New York state police said they believe the suspect who shot three state troopers in the Catskill Mountains region died in a house fire.
State Police said Trooper David C. Brinkerhoff, 29, was killed Wednesday while looking for the suspect, Travis D. Trim, 23, who was suspected of shooting another trooper on Tuesday, The New York Times reported.

WASHINGTON - Bush administration asked a federal court in Washington to set new limits on lawyers for detainees at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House of Representatives passed a $124 billion Iraq war-funding bill that would start to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq Oct. 1.
U.S. President George Bush has promised to veto legislation that includes a troop withdrawal timetable. Democrats have acknowledged they don't have the votes to withstand a veto.

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - An American who got out of jail by promising to donate a kidney to his son only to flee the country, leaving him behind, was arrested Wednesday in Mexico.
Byron Perkins and his girlfriend, Lee Ann Howard, were taken into custody in the Mexican coastal city o Puerto Vallarta and flown to Los Angeles. They were expected to appear in court Thursday and face extradition to Louisville, Ky., CNN reported.

LOS ANGELES - Foreign travel to the United States is getting to be such a hassle that many tourists are going to other countries instead.
Foreign travel reporters, meeting in Anaheim, Calif., say the United States needs to do something about difficult visa application processes and lengthy airport security lines, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

EAGLE PASS, Texas - A twister ripped through the Texas border town of Eagle Pass and nearby Piedras Negras, Mexico, Wednesday killed 10 people and injured at least 80 others.
The tornado killed seven people near Eagle Pass and three in Piedras Negras, CNN reported. Of those injured, 32 were treated and released, the network said.

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A banner used by a gun-rights group during a protest in Pennsylvania that urged the hanging of a lawmaker has prompted a call for an investigation.
