Bullying isn't limited to only the classroom or the playground. Almost 29 percent of human resource executives have seen one or more of their employees quit as a result of workplace bullying, according to the global outplacement agency Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., which surveyed 100 HR professionals. One-third of the executives have seen bullying firsthand or experienced it. This workplace problem affects companies due to lost productivity, low morale, legal costs and employee turnover. ... Job seekers send out as many resumes as possible in hope of getting a response. MRINetwork, a recruitment organization, found that often there is little connection between the job's requirements and the candidate's qualifications. Michael Jalbert, president of MRINetwork, compares today's online boards to the time when job boards were nonexistent. ... [full story]

Q: I would like to know more about the Arts and Crafts oak cellaret seen in this photo. It belonged to my husband's parents. It was from a furnished beach cottage they bought in the 1950s. Behind the two doors are shelves and one drawer. Inside the drawer is a red and yellow paper label with the words "The Work of L. & J. G. Stickley." Above the doors is a pullout copper shelf. My ... Q: Enclosed is a photo of a secretary that I have inherited. It originally belonged to my grandfather. No one in our family has been able to furnish any information as to the age of our secretary. Everyone just says, "He always had it." He died at the age of 80 in 1947 and then it was passed down to my mother. Inside the drop front part are various size cubbyholes. Behind the lower door ... Writers read. The ability to write - to write, that is, not just to write - is achieved in large part through osmosis: By reading, you come to intuit why one string of words rings with clarity while another, every bit as grammatical, goes thunk on the page, or rather, clang in the ear.   SUSAN VREELAND - Susan Vreeland's latest novel is 'Luncheon of the Boating Party.' CNS Photo by Nelvin C. Cepeda. But for some ... [full story]
