Oregon Public Broadcasting began transmitting high-definition television programs to viewers in Central Oregon last week with the completion of the installation of a new digital antenna for KOAB-DT/channel 11 in Bend. A 13-year-old boy who allegedly set four small fires with a lighter near Lava Lake on Tuesday evening has been cited for reckless burning.  Fire crews responded and made sure the fires were safely extinguished. About 5 p.m. on August 15, Deschutes County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies responded to investigate the suspicious fires, and found that a 13-year-old male was suspected of starting the fires. A 23-year-old Bend resident was killed Saturday night in a single-car accident on O.B. Riley Road, approximately ½ mile west of Highway 20.  The accident that claimed the life of Christopher Russell Anderson occurred about 8:30 p.m. on August 12. A 42-year-old Bend man lost his balance while riding in the open bed of a pickup truck, fell out of the truck, and was killed when he was run over by the truck’s tire. Authorities have positively identified the remains of a body found in a burning vehicle at the scene of a single-car crash July 23rd west of Dawn Road and the Deschutes National Forest boundary.  According to a news release from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, forensic investigation via dental records has determined that the victim is Deborah A. There was significant growth on the Lake George fire to the south and west of Mt. The Black Crater fire is now 100 percent contained and the Maxwell fire is 95 percent contained.  Meanwhile, more than 100 additional fires have been reported around Central Oregon after the lightning storms on August 6. Fire crews lost ground Monday as the Lake George fire near Sisters grew an additional 400 acres and part of the McKenzie Highway was closed due to heavy smoke. The Lake George fire grew by about 600 acres to an estimated 1,600 acres Sunday, pushing deeper into the Mt. Washington Wilderness.  According to a news release from the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center, the lightning-caused fire that began August 7 approximately 13 miles west of Sisters in the Mt. The 15-year-old boy who drowned in the Deschutes River last Wednesday while playing on a rope swing has been identified as Kyle Riedel of Gresham. Riedel, who would have turned 16 next month, drowned on August 9 about 4:30 p.m.  He and five other teenagers visiting Sunriver, two boys and three girls ages 14-17, had been floating the Deschutes River between Sunriver and Benham Falls when they saw others playing on a rope swing and ...
