A 15 year old Gresham boy drowned in the Deschutes River Wednesday, August 9 about 4:30 pm while playing on a rope swing with a group of 5 other teenagers staying at Sunriver. The accident occurred between Sunriver and Benham Falls. A motorcyclist who struck a deer was killed on Cascade Lakes Highway near Wickiup Reservoir, Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies reported. The crash involving a 62 year old man whose name has not yet been released occurred on Wednesday, August 9 shortly before 10 a.m. near milepost 56. According to Lt. The Lake George Fire continues to burn approximately 13 miles west of Sisters in the Mt. Washington Wilderness on the Deschutes National Forest, and grew in size from 20 to 300 acres in a four hour period Thursday. As of 10 a.m. Friday August 11, the area involved is estimated at 600 acres. Beams were set on the Newport Avenue Bridge on Friday, August 4th, and Monday, August 7th.  The beams arrived at the work site one at a time and were lifted off the transport trucks and set in place by a crane.
