Two bucks stood very still in a small clearing of the ponderosa pine forest. The hunter raised his rifle, taking aim at the larger of the two deer and squeezed the trigger. During the week, there were 16 reports of vehicle break-ins, with an estimated value of stolen items at $7,812.  Of the 16 reports, seven vehicles were unlocked.  There were also seven reports of car windows being broken by lava racks, with damage estimates totaling $3,050.  DUII arrests totaled five, and there were six warrant arrests made. Three California men were killed in a fatal head-on traffic crash that occurred Friday morning on Highway 97 about 17 miles south of Bend, and fatigue may have been a contributing factor, said authorities. Rock-throwing vandals plaguing the Bend area over the last two weeks have struck again, this time in southwest Bend and the Old Mill District, causing an estimated $15,000 in damages, said authorities. The vandalism occurred from about 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday, September 29 and 30 and targeted numerous vehicles, office windows, and glass doors of businesses. Lt.
