A small fire that caused only $50 in damage to the Bend Shilo Inn Wednesday was caused by the spontaneous combustion of grease and oily rags, said Battalion Chief Bill Boos of the Bend Fire Department. More than a dozen fire personnel responded to the motel at 3105 O.B. Oregon public health officials have joined those in at least eight other states in investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157, a foodborne illness that has been identified in at least five people across Oregon. The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Detective's Division re-processed the location of a crime scene relating to the 1973 murder of Susan Wickersham in an attempt to find any evidence that may aid in solving the decades-old unsolved crime.
