Permits to harvest matsutake mushrooms for commercial purposes went on sale September 11 for the Deschutes, Fremont-Winema, Umpqua and Willamette National Forests.
The permit is valid on all four national forest until the season ends November 11. It is required for anyone picking the mushrooms for commercial purposes.
The types of individual matsutake commercial permits include:
A minimum five-day permit for $35.
Added days to the minimum five-day permit at $7/day.

The Three Flags Campaign is an international traffic enforcement program and involves hundreds of law enforcement agencies in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Since October 1993, the campaign has sought to reduce the number of motor vehicle related deaths and injuries by increasing public awareness of laws regarding safety belt use and other traffic issues including driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) and speed.

A Haystack Reservoir campground on the Crooked River National Grassland was closed starting September 13, while a drinking water system is repaired.
Haystack Campground is located on the reservoir’s east shore and is routinely closed for the winter. It will reopen next April for the summer season with the new water system. The 24-site fee campground has fire pits, tables and paved areas for tent or trailer camping.

The interagency group of fire managers, known as a Multi-Agency Coordinating (MAC) Group, is working diligently to minimize the number of additional large fires in the Pacific Northwest. Currently, there is a high demand for firefighting resources.
