Companies appeal penalties The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a $7,200 penalty to WHM Enterprises, LLC, of Bend, the owner of a 10-unit apartment complex, for allowing unlicensed persons to perform an asbestos abatement project on property it owns at 502-508 S.W. Evergreen in Redmond. Cross-examination, 'Prosecutor and the Media' will be studiedDeschutes County District Attorney Michael Dugan has announced that his office recently received two full scholarships to attend a cross-examination training program at the National Advocacy Center in South Carolina.  Each scholarship covers the costs of the training, including travel, meals and lodging.  There is no cost to Deschutes County.Deputy District Attorney Beth Bagley was accepted into the training program through one of the scholarships.  The training will ... A North Plains-area man died Monday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 20W about twenty-five miles west of Sisters.  The victim was thrown from his motorcycle and struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.  Efforts to revive the victim by an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper and a cardiologist traveling in the area were unsuccessful. Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a Sisters man in connection with an argument over money that sent another man to the hospital with a potentially life-threatening stab wound. About 8:15 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to 154 East Washington Avenue in Sisters to investigate three unwanted intoxicated men at the location.  The suspects had left the area before officers arrived, said Sergeant Kevin Dizney, and the residents did not request any further assistance. ...
