Companies appeal penalties
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a $7,200 penalty to WHM Enterprises, LLC, of Bend, the owner of a 10-unit apartment complex, for allowing unlicensed persons to perform an asbestos abatement project on property it owns at 502-508 S.W. Evergreen in Redmond. In a related action, DEQ has issued an $8,400 penalty to Potter Construction Inc., Bend, the company hired by WHM to renovate the apartment complex, for conducting an asbestos ... Cross-examination, 'Prosecutor and the Media' will be studiedDeschutes County District Attorney Michael Dugan has announced that his office recently received two full scholarships to attend a cross-examination training program at the National Advocacy Center in South Carolina. Each scholarship covers the costs of the training, including travel, meals and lodging. Central Oregon Community Action Agency Network (COCAAN) has announced they will unveil a new name that better suits one of the largest local social service organizations in Central Oregon during their upcoming 21st Anniversary Celebration. The agency has grown from a small non-profit to an organization with over 15 offices, last year providing over 100,000 different services to local residents.

I like a tight deadline, 'specially the one when the appliance repairman calls my cell phone to say he can be at my house in 15 minutes and I know I'm 20 minutes out. That's when a 425-horsepower Dodge Magnum SRT8 comes in handy. This is the big Hemi, the 6.1-liter V-8. With a couple of green lights, I've got it made.

A North Plains-area man died Monday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 20W about twenty-five miles west of Sisters. The victim was thrown from his motorcycle and struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a Sisters man in connection with an argument over money that sent another man to the hospital with a potentially life-threatening stab wound.
About 8:15 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to 154 East Washington Avenue in Sisters to investigate three unwanted intoxicated men at the location. Police are looking for a teenager who stole a half-case of beer, claiming he had a gun, about 11:45 p.m. on Monday from Albertsons supermarket in south Bend.
