Maty, the first three-legged dog to qualify for the Skyhoundz Canine Disc World Championship held in Atlanta, Georgia last weekend proved she can compete against the four-legged competitors. Maty and her throwing partner, Troy Kerstetter took seventh place in the Sport Division Distance and Accuracy.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon needs the communities help in providing premium kitten, puppy, adult dog and cat food to feed the 158 animals currently in our shelter and foster homes. The shelter cares for nearly 5,000 animals each year, and asks the public's assistance in the feeding of these homeless animals.

More than 450 kindergarten through third grade R.E. Jewell Elementary School students were given the gift of literacy on Thursday, thanks to the Chalkboard Project. Each student received a new book to take home, in either English or Spanish, on September 28.Chalkboard Project’s Shirley Skidmore says the donation will help reinforce the importance of building a strong foundation in reading.

Four Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies and one Oregon State Police trooper are on paid leave pending the review of a fatal shooting that left a La Pine man dead on Friday, September 15.

Jared Vanderhoff is the new Senior District Executive for the Crater Lake Council's Fremont District, Boy Scouts of America, which serves central Oregon. He comes to the district from the Oregon Trail Council, having held posts in Corvallis, Newport and Springfield.
Vanderhoff will work with Scouts and adult volunteers in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties. His work involves building membership at both youth and adult levels, fundraising, program development and leadership training.
