The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Detective's Division re-processed the location of a crime scene relating to the 1973 murder of Susan Wickersham in an attempt to find any evidence that may aid in solving the decades-old unsolved crime. Three fires that spanned from Redmond to Bend along Hwy. 97 on Sunday, August 27, are being investigated as potential arson, according to officials. “We had three fires,” said Dan Derlacki, a fire inspector with the City of Bend Fire Department. “The first one started in Redmond on the west side of the highway.” That fire burned about an acre or so, according to Derlacki. School Improvement Wednesdays kicked-off this week with early release for all Bend-La Pine Schools elementary and middle school students.
