SALEM, Ore. -Thursday Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, April 25, 2009, in memory of Private First Class Richard Allen DeWater of Grants Pass, OR.

Flags will be flown at half-staff Apr. 25 in honor of PFC Richard Allen DeWater.

DeWater, 21, died April 15, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device, while on a dismounted patrol near Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

“Dewater was a dedicated soldier that served his state and his country with honor and courage,” said Governor Kulongoski. “He will be forever remembered by friends and family and his sacrifice for our nation will never be forgotten.”
