Bardem wins supporting actor Oscar
by UPI

LOS ANGELES - Javier Bardem won the supporting actor Oscar in Los Angeles Sunday for his portrayal of a serial killer in "No Country for Old Men."

Bardem beat out Casey Affleck, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Hal Holbrook and Tom Wilkinson for the honor.

"This is pretty amazing," Bardem said as he collected his prize and dedicated it to his mother. "Thank you to (filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen) for being crazy enough to think that I could do that and put one of the most horrible haircuts in history over my head."

The Spanish actor also won Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards for his work in the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel.

The big-screen version of "No Country for Old Men" also earned the Coen brothers the Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
