EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon football Coach Mike Bellotti resigned Friday and will be the Pac-10 school's next athletic director, the (Eugene, Ore.) Register Guard reported.
Bellotti will assume his new post July 1, after serving for a time as senior counselor to current AD Pat Kilkenny, the report said. Bellotti was not available for comment Friday.
Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will succeed Bellotti as head football coach, the Register-Guard reported.
At 116-55, Bellotti, 58, is the Ducks' winningest football coach ever. He has been their head coach since the 1995 season and has led the school to a 6-6 record in 12 bowl appearances in 14 seasons.
Oregon finished 10-3 last season and beat Oklahoma State 42-31 at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
The Ducks went 11-1 in the 2001 season, including a win at the Fiesta Bowl win over Colorado.
