The Oregon State Beavers, ranked No. 8 lost to the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels Saturday night in the opening game of the College World Series championship. The game was delayed for 1 hour 11 minutes due to lightening and rain.
In the first of a best of three series at Rosenblatt Stadium, the Beavers were disappointed in front of a crowd of almost 27,000 when, with the tying run in scoring position in the ninth inning, the Tar Heels’ closer Andrew Carignan struck out Darwin Barney and John Wallace to end the game.
|Darwin Barney was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. |
The series continues Sunday, June 25 at 4 pm PST. It will be televised on cable’s ESPN2. If the Beavers tie the series today, a third game will be played Monday at 4 pm and be available on ESPN.
