June 19

            OSU Beavers beat the Georgia Bulldogs 5-3 in the College World Series played at Rosenblatt Stadium.

          The Bend Elks won 7-3 against the Central Oregon Bucks in a non-league amateur game. Grant Desme and Eric Sogard each had one run scored, and both Pat Burke and Dan Wentzell scored doubles.

          In American Legion play Summit beat Lapine in both games of a double header, scoring 7-6 in the first game, and 14-2 in the 6-inning second game.

          The head softball coach of Redmond High School, Kevan Pratt, announced his retirement.

June 20

          OSU Beavers trounced the Miami Hurricanes 8-1 in the College World Series.

          The Bend Elks beat the Wenatchee AppleSox 2-1 in the first of a 3-game series. Pitcher Jason Erickson struck out 6 and allowed only one run in 7 2/3 innings.

June 21

          Oregon State beat the Rice Owls 5-0.

          The Bend Elks lost 8-1 to the Wenatchee AppleSox, leaving 10 runners on base.

June 22

          On only 2 days rest, pitcher Jonah Nickerson turned in a stellar performance in 7 2/3 shutout innings as the OSU Beavers beat Rice 2-0.

          The Bend Elks came up short against the Wenatchee Applesox, losing 8-5.

June 24

          The OSU Beavers fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels 4-3 in the opening game of the College World Series.

          The Bend Elks lost to Spokane Riverhawks 3-1 at Spokane.

June 25

          Oregon State Beavers won 11-7 against the NC Tar Heels in the second game of the College World Series, coming back from a 5 run deficit to score 7 runs in the fourth inning.

          In a double-header, the Bend Elks lost the first game 6-3 and won the second game 6-1 against the Spokane Riverhawks.

June 26

          The Oregon State Beavers are the champions of the College World Series, with a 3-2 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels.

In the final game of the series against the Riverhawks, the Elks won 6-1.



June 20

Recent Sisters High School graduate Scott Barton tied for first place with a 5-under-par 67 at Portland Golf Club in the qualifying stage of the Oregon Amateur Championship.

June 21

          Scott Barton advanced to the round of 32 in No. 2 seed position; and Jessica Black of Bend, a 2005 Summit High School graduate, advanced to the round of 16 in the Oregon Amateur Championship.


June 22

          Brandon Kearney of Bend, the only remaining Central Oregon golfer, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Oregon Amateur Championship.


June 18

          Steven Peebles, a recent graduate of Redmond High School won the State Bareback Riding title in the Oregon High School Rodeo Association Finals held at Klamath Falls. Sammy Jo Willis of Terrebonne took first in the girls cutting competition. Both teens now qualify for the National High School Finals Rode to take place July 24-30.
