Mt. Bachelor to Remain Open Through Memorial Day
by Bend Weekly Sources

The end of the 2005-06 Mt. Bachelor ski and snowboard season will coincide with the traditional start to summer this year.  Mt. Bachelor announced that the resort will complete winter operations on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.  On-mountain festivities will celebrate the holiday and wrap up a season that has tallied more than 500 inches of snowfall to date.

“We’re pleased that avid enthusiasts can book their May and Memorial Weekend getaways to combine skiing, snowboarding and golf in Central Oregon,” commented Janette Sherman, Mt. Bachelor Communications Manager.  “Spring conditions on the mountain have been spectacular,” she added.

Current projections indicate that May will continue to deliver strong visitation to Central Oregon and the mountain.  Through this week, skier/snowboarder visits for the month of April are up 79% over the same period in 2005, according Ms. Sherman.  The Bend area lodging community has informed the resort that it is forecasting steady business levels for the upcoming month.

The resort will celebrate closing day on Monday, May 29th with the annual North American Pond Skimming Championships in which costumed athletes on skis or snowboards attempt to cross a pool of near-freezing water.  The competitor entry fee for this highly entertaining event is $20.  The event is free to spectators.  All who enter the competition are entered in a drawing to win a 2006-07 Mt. Bachelor Season Pass.  There will also be live music and a BBQ on the deck.

Mt. Bachelor is open daily for the Summit Season from 8am to 1pm.  Summit Express and Pine Marten Express lifts are scheduled to run through the end of the season, weather permitting.  Adult lift tickets are $32.  Discounted Summit Season pass packages are also available.  For further information on Summit Season and the North American Pond Skimming Championships, visit www.mtbachelor.com

Mt. Bachelor is in the Cascade Mountain Range just 22 miles from Bend, Oregon. More than 3,680 acres of terrain surround the classic cone-shaped peak of 9,065 feet. Mt. Bachelor receives approximately 370 inches of light, dry snow each year. MSN ranks Mt. Bachelor as one of the Top 10 resorts in North America. For more information on Mt. Bachelor, visit the website at www.mtbachelor.com or call 1-800-829-2442.
