Prineville driver, allegedly drunk, jailed following pursuit and hit-and-run

A 36-year old Prineville driver was taken into custody Monday night after he failed to stop when a police officer attempted to pull him over as he allegedly drove his SUV while intoxicated through the main street of town, and then led officers on a pursuit through residential neighborhoods before striking a parked car, continued driving, then eventually stopped and surrendered.

According to Prineville Police Chief Eric Bush, the incident began about 8:20 p.m., November 5, as Timothy W. Halsey of 1276 NE McRae Court drove his Toyota SUV south on N. Main Street. After failing to stop, Halsey allegedly led officers on a pursuit through the southeast area of Prineville.

After striking a parked car, Halsey continued driving for a short distance before he stopped and surrendered, Bush said. A female passenger was in the vehicle but was not arrested.

Halsey was taken into custody without further incident and was lodged in the Crook County Jail with bail set at $15,000. He is charged with felony attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, failing to perform the duties of a driver, and driving under the influence of intoxicants. According to Chief Bush, Halsey’s blood alcohol content was .17, more than double the legal limit.
