BAGHDAD - Two Iraqi civilians were killed by a bomb blast in central Baghdad Wednesday that officials said was intended to hit a U.S. military convoy.

Three other civilians were injured and a car reduced to scrap in the blast, Kuwait's KUNA news agency reported.

The explosion occurred near the city's so-called Green Zone, which houses the Iraqi parliament, U.S. and other diplomatic missions, CNN said.

In the northern city of Kirkuk, Alsumaria said insurgents targeted police, with one officer killed and his wife wounded when a gunman attacked their house. Another bomb in the city explosion targeting a patrol wounded five policemen, the report said.

A U.S. military statement released Wednesday in Baghdad said four of its troops had been killed in three incidents in Iraq since Monday.

Monday, one soldier was killed by a sniper south of Baghdad, the report said. Tuesday, two others were killed and four injured in an explosion that targeted their patrol in Diyala province, northeast of the capital, while the fourth died in a gunfight with insurgents in the northern city of Mosul, the military said.
