Correctional Deputies thwarted an attempted suicide by an inmate at the Deschutes County Adult Jail Friday morning, when during a routine security check they found a man had tied twisted sheets around his neck and bed bunk. The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. October 20.
Deputies immediately intervened by removing the sheet and providing medical attention, said Sergeant Darren Squier.
Emergency medical technicians later responded and determined the inmate needed no further medical treatment.
Deschutes County Mental Health personnel assessed the individual, whose name was withheld due to classification as “medically confidential information”, and determined that he should remain under medical and mental health observation.
