Report: Detroit most dangerous city

WASHINGTON -- Mission Viejo, Calif., ranked the safest and Detroit the most dangerous in a new list of city crime rankings published by CQ Press.

The 14th annual "City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America" is based on FBI statistics for the year, said CQ, a branch of Congressional Quarterly.

CQ examined 378 cities with at least 75,000 residents and based its rankings on per-capita rates for auto theft, burglary, homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

The five safest cities were ranked as Mission Viejo; Clarkstown, N.Y.; Brick Township, N.J.; Amherst, N.Y., and Sugar Land, Texas. CQ's five most dangerous cities were Detroit,;St. Louis; Flint, Mich.; Oakland, Calif., and Camden, N.J.
