LONDON -- A defendant in the 2005 terrorist bombings in London was portrayed Monday as the man who obtained the ingredients for the devices that left 52 people dead. Manfo Asiedu, 34, a Ghanian national, was accused in court of acquiring the explosive materials and trying to cover up his role after he became a target of the investigation. Asiedu earlier pleaded guilty a conspiracy charge and was in court Monday for a sentencing hearing. The Sun said prosecutor Nigel Sweeney alleged Asiedu was supposed to have set off a fifth bomb in the deadly July 21 spree but lost his nerve and ditched his explosive-laden backpack in the woods. He added that Asiedu knew the details of the plot in advance and failed to alert authorities.
