Alcohol appears to be the factor in the death of a 43-year old La Pine man involved in a single-vehicle crash on 6th Street near Pengra Road in La Pine on Friday evening, authorities said.
According to a news release issued by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the accident scene on 6th Street about 100 yards east of Pengra Road about 5 p.m. October 13.
Initial investigation determined that the GMC pickup driven by Martin Ray Gray had been swerving on the roadway, eventually left the road and rolled at least once, then struck a tree, said Sgt. Ron Dozier. Gray, the only occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
According to the sergeant, the victim was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle. “Alcohol appears to have been a factor in this crash,” he added.
Oregon State Police and La Pine Fire Department personnel assisted at the scene of the ongoing investigation.
