CHICAGO -- No charges have been brought in the case of a father and two sons who were severely burned in their Chicago-area home, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
The boys, age 4 and 7, were doused with gasoline and set afire, police said.
The boys' father, Kaushik Patel, 34, drove his sons five miles from their home in Glendale Heights to a relative's home, where police and fire authorities were called Sunday night, the Tribune reported.
The three, whose conditions were unavailable, were taken to local hospitals and then airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, police said.
Police were trying to interview Patel and no arrests or criminal charges had been brought, the Tribune reported.
"This was not a random act of violence," Glendale Heights police Chief Mike Marron told the Arlington Heights Daily Herald. "We do believe this was a domestic-related situation. We don't believe we're looking for any third-party suspects."
Nishaben Patel, Patel's wife and the boys' mother, was not at home when the fire occurred, neighbor Daisy Kalapurackal said.
Kalapurackal said Nishaben Patel told her Monday, "There was a fire in my house and my kids got hurt real bad and my husband too. I don't know how it happened."
