Bush names seven appointees

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President George W. Bush Wednesday appointed seven members to the Advisory Council to the Board of Governors of the American Red Cross.

The president also announced nominees for assistant secretary of labor and commissioner of internal revenue at the Treasury Department, the White House said in a news release.

Bush nominated Douglas H. Shulman, vice chairman of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, for the treasury position, while naming Romano Group, LLC President Neil Romano to the labor post.

If approved, Romano would also represent the Department of Labor on the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled.

Bush appointed Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staffs Michael G. Mullen and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to the Red Cross advisory panel.
