Coquille Man Killed in Traffic Accident on Hwy 97 south of Bend

Oregon State Police and Deschutes County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation of a head-on crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Highway 97 south of Bend. The fatal crash resulted in the death of a Coquille man and injuries to four others, including two seriously.
 
On March 28, 2006 at approximately 2:45 p.m., a 2002 Honda four door driven by KEVIN DOUGLAS NASVALL, age 40, from Coquille, was southbound on Highway 97 near milepost 147 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on in the right hand lane with a 1985 Chevrolet Blazer with three occupants.
 
NASVALL was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger in the Honda was extricated by Bend Fire paramedics. TERRY SCOTT RICHTER, age 55, from Coquille, was transported to St. Charles Medical Center with critical injuries.
 
The three Chevrolet Blazer occupants were also transported to St. Charles Medical Center. The driver, NORMAN FORGEY, age 67, from La Pine, and passenger TANYA HARVEY, age 34, from Napa, California, were treated and released for minor injuries. A second passenger, MARY FORGEY, age 54, from La Pine, was seriously injured.
 
All vehicle occupants were using safety restraints and both vehicle's airbags deployed.
 
Bend Fire and Sunriver sent ambulances to the scene to assist. ODOT assisted with traffic control. All lanes of Highway 97 were reopened at about 5:30 p.m.
