COCC’S Cascade Winds Band Presents Fall Concert
Oct 25,2006 00:00 by Bend Weekly News Sources

Central Oregon Community College’s Cascade Winds Symphonic Band, under the direction of Michael Gesme, will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 5; and 7:30 p.m. Monday, November 6, at the Tower Theatre in downtown Bend.

The program includes several classic works for wind ensemble including the stately “Crown Imperial” by William Walton, Gordon Jacob’s “An Original Suite” and a rarely performed John Phillip Sousa march called “The Black Horse Troop.”

The concert will also include three contemporary works for band ― all coincidentally composed in 2002: Robert Jager’s “Concert in the Park,” “A Festive Celebration” by Darren Jenkins and “The Sacred Flame" by W. Francis McBeth. Winston Churchill always used the name “Sacred Flame” when referring to the legend of King Arthur, and this piece is a stunning tone poem that describes this legendary warrior-king.

This concert is being presented in conjunction with NeighborImpact (formerly COCAAN) and all those who attend are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to donate.

Tickets are free, but required for admission. They are available at the Tower Theatre box office, or from any band member. Please call Yoleen at 389-2035 for tickets and information about the season subscription drive.

Anyone wishing to attend this event who has special needs resulting from a physical disability should contact Gene Zinkgraf, ADA coordinator, at least three days in advance of the event. He can be reached at 383-7775 or through the college’s TTY number, 383-7708.
