JERUSALEM -- A goodwill release of Palestinian prisoners from an Israeli jail was set for Sunday, Red Cross officials and Palestinian authorities said.
Hundreds of prisoners had set their hopes on being released before this week's peace summit in the United States and were following the news each day, Ynetnews.com reported.
Wednesday, the Palestinian Authority's Prisoner Affairs Bureau said the release would be Sunday and prisoners' representatives were contacted by the Red Cross.
Officials at the Ktziot prison also have begun asking those scheduled for release to sign an agreement they would not engage in terrorist activities against Israel as a condition of their release.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and representatives of more than 40 countries began peace discussions and future summit planning in Washington and Annapolis, Md., all week.
