Deputies are asking the public’s help in identifying a man who allegedly grabbed a 16-year-old La Pine girl and tried to force her into his car after she declined a ride Monday afternoon.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office dispatched a deputy about 2:40 p.m., December 10, to speak with the unidentified victim, Sgt. Ronny Dozier and Deputy Gary Barrett reported in a news release.

The girl told the deputy she was walking on Finley Butte Road about noon when she was approached by a man who offered her a ride in his car, out of the cold weather. When she declined, the man allegedly got out of his car, grabbed her, and tried to force her into his vehicle.

The victim broke away and ran to the safety of her step mother’s home, Dozier and Barrett said.

The suspect is described as being in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5-foot 10-inches tall with a stocky build. He has shoulder-length dark, greasy hair and was last seen wearing a dark-colored winter jacket, blue jeans, and possibly tennis shoes.

The suspect’s vehicle is a dark mid-sized passenger car, perhaps a 2-door, and was described as a “beater”.

Anyone with information regarding the alleged kidnap attempt is asked to contact the sheriff’s office dispatch center at 541.693.6911.
