WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- Police charged two Colorado teenagers as adults in the beating death of a 7-year-old girl.
Police arrested Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Maria Trujillo, 16, Tuesday night for the death of Zoe Garcia following a playful wrestling bout that got out of control, KGMH-TV in Denver, said Thursday.
The arrest affidavit said Garcia lost consciousness when Robert and Trujillo repeatedly kicked and punched her.
The teens attempted to revive Garcia by placing her in a bathtub and cracking an egg into her mouth to ensure she was not pretending, the television station said.
Roberts and Trujillo waited about 15 minutes before calling police out of fear "the cops were going to get mad" because teens were charged with responsibility of the 7-year-old.
They each face one count of felony child abuse resulting in death.
"We are talking about a pair disciplining a kid but when a kid is harmed in this kind of violent situation, we are going to take it very seriously," Weld County, Colo., District Attorney Ken Buck told KGMH-TV.
Coroners indicated Garcia suffered a broken wrist, scores of bruises and bleeding in the brain and under the spine.
