A 22-year old Bend man –- allegedly driving with a suspended license and in possession of drugs -- was captured by a police dog and it’s handler after the man led officers on a short car chase, then attempted to flee on foot after he failed to stop his vehicle when police tried to pull him over for a traffic stop early this morning, authorities reported.
Berrett, however, led the officer on a short pursuit, ignoring the patrol car’s lights and siren until he stopped at NE Second Street near NE Hawthorne and then tried to run away, Carlon reported in a news release.
The police dog and his handler captured Berrett near NE Third Street and NE Greeley, where he was taken into custody and then lodged in the Deschutes County Jail. Berrett is charged with felony attempt to elude (for the car chase), misdemeanor attempt to elude (for the foot chase), reckless driving, driving while suspended, and possession of a controlled substance.
A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Jenny Lee Johnson of Bend, was arrested for an outstanding warrant and also taken to jail, Carlon added.
