A 26-year old Bend man who became lost while snowboarding on Mt. Bachelor Friday was found hours later, safe and sound, authorities reported.
Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) personnel all joined together to search for Tommy James Hackenbruck of Bend, Sheriff’s Cpl. Wayne Morgan said.
Hackenbruck became separated while snowboarding with a friend on the east slopes of the mountain about 12:30 p.m., December 21. Deputies said he last spoke with his friend by phone about an hour later, but was then reported missing around 4:30 p.m. when he didn’t return and he was unreachable by cell phone.
Hackenbruck, a reportedly experienced snowboarder familiar with the area, had no food or survival gear with him, the corporal wrote in a news release.
