CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - North Carolina authorities say they have learned that a pregnant U.S. Marine missing for three weeks is dead.

Sheriff's deputies were looking for a grave in an Onslow County woods and have named another Marine as a suspect in the apparent death of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach.

The Raleigh News and Observer said Sheriff Ed Brown did not reveal any details into Friday's developments. However he did say that a fellow leatherneck whom Lauterbach had accused of rape was considered a suspect. CNN said the suspect, who was still being sought, was identified as Cpl. Cesar Armando Lauren.

Lauterbach was pregnant when she vanished from her home near the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base.

The case took a twist when Lauterbach's mother told reporters her daughter had a psychiatric disorder and was a compulsive liar. There were also reports that some of her personal effects were missing; possibly indicating she had left the area on her own.
