LIVERMORE, Calif. - Sheriff's deputies in California's Alameda County were trying to find homes for about 450 hens and fighting cocks seized in a raid that netted seven arrests.

The deputies reported finding a fight in progress Sunday afternoon when they acted on a tip that took them to a property in Livermore, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. They confiscated 300 roosters that were either fighting or appeared likely to be used in a fight.

Another 150 gamecocks and hens were seized at another property in Livermore.

Six of the men arrested in the raid were from the Bay Area, including three from Alameda, two from Livermore and one from San Jose. The seventh was from Las Vegas.

The confiscated birds are worth about $500,000, said Sgt. J.D. Nelson, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
