Amtrak train kills man in California

SACRAMENTO - Rail service on the line between Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area was shut down for about two hours Tuesday after a pedestrian was struck and killed.

Several trains were delayed, the Sacramento Bee reported. The train to San Jose, which hit the victim in West Sacramento shortly after pulling out of the station at 4:30 a.m., was held for the coroner with passengers being transferred to another train, while a train from Oakland to Sacramento was held at Davis.

The victim was described as a white man. His identity had not been released several hours after he was killed.

Amtrak said that the man was trespassing on the tracks.
