NEW ORLEANS - A 21-year-old man convicted of abducting and raping a 10-year-old boy in New Orleans in 2005 has been sentenced to life in prison.
An Orleans Parish Criminal District Court jury decided that for his abduction of three local children, Kendrich Thomas should spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported Sunday.
Prosecutor Matthew Whitworth said prior to Saturday's sentencing that Thomas' life sentence was appropriate given his crimes.
"He showed no mercy," Whitworth said during Thomas' five-day trial. "What mercy did he show these boys?"
The life sentence was for Thomas' conviction on one count of aggravated rape and represented Louisiana's mandatory sentence for such a crime.
The Times-Picayune said Thomas is still facing additional prison time for a count of attempted rape, along with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and indecent behavior with a juvenile.
