BAGHDAD - At least 53 people were killed and 94 injured when two female suicide bombers set off devices at Baghdad pet markets.

The first blast, at the Birds' Market in the city's New Baghdad district, killed eight people, KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency, reported Friday. CNN reported that an additional 14 people were injured in the attack.

Iraqi police said the second bomber attacked a half an hour later at the Al Ghazil pet market, killing at least 45 people and wounding 80.

A January 2007 attack at the pet market killed 15 people and wounded 52 others and a November bombing at the market killed 13 people and injured 58.

Baghdad security plan spokesman Qasim Atta said both of the bombers Friday were outfitted with explosive vests.

The Iraqi Interior Ministry said a parked car bomb exploded Thursday in Kadhamiya, a mainly Shiite district of Baghdad, causing five civilian deaths and eight injuries.
