Iran moves toward nuclear power production

BUSHEHR, Iran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said programs in Tehran are nearing their goal of developing nuclear energy, a report said.
U.S. President George W. Bush has been working to toughen sanctions on Iran's nuclear programs, including their ability to enrich uranium for fueling nuclear power plants, Fars News Agency reported Friday.
"We are moving towards the summit on the nuclear path. Iranians ... will not back down one iota in defense of their rights," Ahmadinejad said.
The International Atomic Energy Agency and U.S. intelligence officials have said Iran has been cooperating with their agencies on the matter. That has caused Bush's efforts to gather international support for stopping Iran's nuclear programs to lose momentum, the report said.
The first nuclear power facility is set to go into service in October and be connected with the national power grid some time afterward, officials said.
