MILWAUKEE - A 79-year-old Roman Catholic nun was sentenced to a year in a Wisconsin jail Friday for molesting two boys more than 40 years ago.
Sister Norma Giannini must also spend 10 years on probation, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. She pleaded no contest in November to indecent behavior with a child.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Joseph Donald gave her a sentence of five years for each crime but suspended all except a year.
Giannini, a member of the Sisters of Mercy, was principal of the St. Patrick's Congregation school in the 1960s. She moved to Illinois in 1970.
Prosecutors said she could still be tried because she left Wisconsin before the statute of limitations had expired.
She allegedly admitted the abuse in 1996 to a Milwaukee diocesan panel set up to deal with allegations of sexual misconduct.
"I thought I was in love with both of them," she reportedly said.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Giannini admitted to the panel that she molested a boy in Chicago.
