Orion W. Cannon remains lodged in the Benton County Jail, and is charged with attempted unlawful use of a weapon, police said.

According to a news release prepared by the Corvallis Police Department, Albany Police took a report from LBCC security staff on January 31. The witness told police that Cannon was trying to figure out how to get a rifle to the college.

Albany and Corvallis police worked together and confirmed that Cannon had recently purchased a rifle from a Corvallis business, and obtained a warrant to search his residence.

Officers, assisted by Oregon Stat Police SWAT team members, raided the suspect’s home and seized a .22 caliber rifle and ammunition. Cannon was taken into custody.

“The Corvallis Police Department will not condone violence, or threats of violence within our schools,” they stated, adding that anyone who witnesses this type of behavior should immediately report the incident to authorities.
