PHILADELPHIA - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into allegations Philadelphia police beat patrons inside a Puerto Rican social club.

Philadelphia police opened an internal investigation into the Jan. 26 incident at the Aces Borincanos Dance Club in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday. Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said the FBI's Civil Rights Office is conducting its own inquiry.

The newspaper said 20 people were allegedly beaten after police were called to club because of a fight. At least 50 officers may have been at the scene.

One man claims he was struck in the head with a police baton and required staples to close the wound. Another man was arrested for allegedly punching an officer. The newspaper said police are prohibited from hitting a person in the head with a baton.
